The INAMI (Institut National d’Assurance Maladie Invalidité) is a vital component of Belgium’s
social security system. Its primary functions include ensuring that all social beneficiaries,
regardless of their condition, have effective access to high- quality healthcare and receives
medical reimbursement. It is essential that these healthcare services are provided at set rates
to ensure tariff security and promote fair access to healthcare.
INAMI also ensures that social beneficiaries, including paid employees and self-employed
individuals, receive adequate replacement income in case of incapacity, maternity/paternity, or
other related conditions. Moreover, INAMI aims to provide meaningful reintegration
opportunities for these individuals once they are able to return to work.
In November 2022, our consultant Christophe joined INAMI as a Project Manager to support
the Infrastructure and Operations department in achieving their mission.
The Infrastructure and Operations team sought assistance in developing a project management
strategy to alleviate the challenges of juggling operational and project-related duties within the
operational teams. The aim was to enhance communication, coordination, and reporting
through improved project management.
Furthermore, one of the key issues they aimed to address was the improvement of a secure
digital environment, understanding the critical importance of the data they handle. This project
involves auditing the environment to ensure strict security controls, risk mitigation methods,
and robust reporting requirements. Other significant initiatives include the implementation of a
new multimedia infrastructure, transitioning to an Azure-based landscape, and upgrading the
SQL infrastructure to the 2019 edition.
Christophe presented a team-specific project management technique that made use of tools
such as Microsoft Planner. By customisng project management tools for the team and enabling
continuous collaboration in microproject teams, the approach ensured consistent monitoring
and allowed team members to focus on technical and operational tasks.
He conducted regular Steering Committee meetings as well as weekly workshops to foster
collaboration and emphasise the completion of measurable tasks. Christophe supported cross-
team collaboration through the application of Agile principles to their projects.
Regarding the multiple initiatives, he assisted the team in developing their roadmap and
initiated a project to build a Configuration Management Database (CMDB) to improve the
organisation’s ability to measure of the impact of change. This will be improving the
infrastructure team’s readiness to onboard new projects in its supporting role for the INAMI
Information and Communication Technology (ICT).
The use of tools and enhanced coordination significantly increased project management
efficiency. The team optimised task tracking, communication, and collaboration mechanisms,
leading to continuous improvement in project delivery and adherence to timelines.
Christophe’s expertise played a critical role in advancing the secure digital environment project.
By emphasising project planning and increasing risk mitigation presentation, INAMI is now
creating an even more controlled and secure environment.
Overall, the INAMI Infrastructure & Operation team delivers positive project outcomes by
consistently reporting significant risks and requirements on time. The operational employees
spend less time on project reporting, enabling them to focus on their primary responsibilities.
Christophe’s guidance propelled the team further towards achieving a forward vision and
strategy based on the infrastructure’s lifecycle.
